England is the darkest country in the world
Often the vocabulary is just the heritage of the culture and the things surrounding us. For example, “pizza” is spelled the same in English and in Italian, yet it means two very different things such as a food by-product in the former language and a fantastic experience involving all the senses in the latter. It…

The “bread” in Tesco
I noticed today that Tesco does not indicate anymore “contains flour treatment agent” on the bread. Perhaps all the types on sale are real bread: hardly! Just a step back in the path of information to the public. http://www.sustainweb.org/realbread/ Bakers, bakeries… ridiculously nonexistent in Great Britain. Ever heard of Greggs and their “baked in store” slogans? And made……

Tombstones in England
I can’t ignore them. The English place their graveyard right in the middle of inhabited centres. They create interesting contrasts of ideas. I set up a lightbox on iStockphoto with several of such cases.

English homes
Since 2003, I’ve been living in England. Not every year since, but almost, I have been photographing homes (English homes, more or less traditionally so), easily, just by going out for a walk. The Finchale Priory is…

There must be a reason…
…to endure this shitty weather. Like Woody Allen once said about shooting in London, a dark grey sky makes an easy background. Also available on iStock for sale.

There is only one kind of pizza
There is only one kind of pizza. I do agree, although probably I would differ from their definition. I do like the colours of their store, though. The Nikkor 24-120 VR 3.5-5.6 is bad, but good enough for web-size images.

Quality of life portrayed in a cinema
Durham vs Pisa, two similarly sized university towns. Eight o’clock, after dinner: let’s go out to the movies! It’s Sunday tonight, 3rd October 2010, let’s not be too late. Durham: one cinema, Gala theatre. Alas, no shows in the afternoon, certainly not after dinner. Apparently the Gala’s management must believe people don’t have fun if…

Londra merda
Most accommodation in London includes homes that would be regarded with suspect in the rest of the United Kingdom, would only appear amongst the saddest ghettos within developing countries, and could not possibly be on the market in the rest of Europe. Certainly, not with their actual price tags. “Le parole sono importanti!” (words are…
