Asymmetrical three-lights setup for Medium Shots
Most of the times, I like symmetrical lighting without rim. Recently I wanted to experiment with an asymmetrical lighting with rim for a medium shot portrait. This scheme seems to work well with the rim switched off too.

Hard light for beauty?
It is often taught that soft light is the prime choice for beauty shots and to conceal skin flaws. Actually, the very opposite may be true, especially if combined with (again, counterintuitively) high-contrast post-processing.

Dramatic light for somebody sitting in a room
Aside some editing, this effect was obtained with a large Elinchrom Rotalux softbox 90x110cm with its (Rota)grid placed just in front of Francesco S., very low and throwing light parallel to the floor. A little bit of filling was give by a reflector illuminating a far white wall behind him.
