There must be a reason…
…to endure this shitty weather. Like Woody Allen once said about shooting in London, a dark grey sky makes an easy background. Also available on iStock for sale.

Autofocus for macro
Who says that autofocus is not for macro shots? Well, many, and usually it holds true. Not if the object does not stay that still… like a Post-It in the air. Solution: Fuji S3, Nikkor AF-D 50/1.4, B+W close-up lens, and continuous autofocus.

Somebody left the milk out of the window…
…at the castle. Yes, it was very cold today in Durham. And the Sony NEX-5, with the Tamron SP 90/2.5 and the Manfrotto 709B, spotted it very well. This Manfrotto is fantastic. I am not someone who carries heavy stuff with him (why would otherwise use a NEX?), and in fact I can leave this…

Short review of Sony NEX-5
First thing first: I prefer a Contax 139, or a Nikon FM2, to the Sony NEX-5. But this comparison would be too much heterogeneous: the NEX is a digital camera. As such, the NEX is a great camera, and I think that disparaging it mostly comes from a psychological embarrassment of the kind “too small,…

Mad concepts
I have finally gathered here all my mad studio shots. With minimal exceptions, my Fuji S3 helped me with them. They are available on iStock.

Cosy and Italian in Amsterdam
A cosy and Italian eatery (calling it restaurant would be too much) welcomed us in Amsterdam. They also let us eat a little outside of their working hours (perhaps our face was screaming “hungry”). While eating I shot two pictures with my Nikon FM2n loaded with Ektar 100: “Uliveto” was happily located downstairs our hotel,…

Back from Amsterdam…
…it is time to enjoy some Coolscanning. I was happy with the Delta 3200 in the Contax just as much as with the Ektar 100 in the Nikon. Two humble examples. Of course, my Amsterdam pictures will begin to pop up in iStock too.

Yes, you can…
…go to Amsterdam by sea only. And enjoying it, too. Thanks to DFDS for this! Of course, a Nikon FM2n loaded with Ektar 100 makes the trip even more enjoyable. Available on iStock!

Some cameras, many cameras
Having just received my second Contax 139 (to replace my beloved original one that I got when I was 16), I reckon this is the right time to summarise my photographic equipment. I am not a collector. I own cameras and lenses because I use them, with the only exception of the first in the…

TLR perspective
One of the easiest things to do with a Twin Lens Reflex (“biottica”) is looking down (in the viewfinder) and high (with the lens). I did the same, a few years ago, in Canary Wharf.

To grain or not to grain
It often happen today that, instead of choosing digital imagery for what it has good to offer – that is cleanliness -, “filters” to add digital film grain are popular. I, for once, believe that shooting with an Ilford Delta 3200 not only is great fun, but also yields great results in terms of tones…
